Orford, New Hampshire is a town of opportunity. The town of Orford, New Hampshire was chartered in 1761 to a man named Jonathan Moulton, and his family. The name Orford is derived from Governor Benning Wentworth, who named the town after Robert Walpole, Earl of Orford, who was also once the first Prime Minister of England. One of Orford's first settlers was a man called General Israel Morey, whose son Samuel was an inventor, who wished to find a way to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen. He used this knowledge to create the first steamboat, and tested it in the waters of the Connecticut River in Orford.
