The town of Littleton, New Hampshire was originally known as Chiswick. The town charter of Chiswick also included parts of what are now known as Lisbon, Dalton, and Sugar Hill. The charter was changed in 1770, to name the town Apthorp, after George Apthorp who was one of the wealthiest heads of a large mercantile factory in Boston. Then in 1784, Apthorp separated into two towns, one of them called Dalton, New Hampshire, and the other one taking up the present name of Littleton, which was named after Colonel Moses Little, who held the title of Surveyor of King's Woods, under Governor Wentworth.
This is a town of opportunity. It satisfies the need of the resident, with stores, employment opportunities, recreation, and outdoor sports alike. The town itself houses a Wal-mart, a Shaws grocer and a Home Depot hardware store. Safety is something important in a town like Littleton, New Hampshire, which is why they have their Littleton Regional Hospital. Littleton, New Hampshire, is part of the New Hampshire School Administrative Unit 84. Littleton has its own elementary school, middle school, and high school. Lakeway Elementary school houses children grades K-6, Daisy Bronson Middle School educates the children grades 7-8, and then Littleton High School teaches the children who are grades 9-12. There is also a small private school, Littleton Academy in town.
