Lisbon, New Hampshire is one of the many quaint little New England towns tucked in the northwest forests of the Granite State. The town of Lisbon, New Hampshire, had 3 different names between the years of 1760 and 1770. Originally chartered as Concord, the name was quickly changed to Chiswick, since “Concord” was already taken by the now-capital city of New Hampshire. The name was then changed to Gunthwaite, after a relative of Governor Wentworth. The name Lisbon, however, was voted upon by the townsfolk after it was offered by Governor Levi Woodbury, in honor of his friend Colonel William Jarvis, who served as consul in Lisbon, Portugal. The name was overwhelmingly approved.
