Bridgewater, New Hampshire

Bridgewater, New Hampshire, is a small town located on the southeastern shores of Newfound Lake in the central region of the state.  Bridgewater is home to about 1100 people and very little business or industry.  Set well within the Lakes Region of NH, Bridgewater residents enjoy all the great outdoor adventures that New Hampshire has to offer.

Bridgewater was originally a part of a town called New Chester, which was split into several towns, including Bristol, Hill, Danbury, and Wilmot, in addition to Bridgewater.  Bridgewater received its charter in 1788 from NH President John Sullivan – before the position’s title was changed to “Governor”.  The town was named after the Massachusetts town of the same name because many of the settlers to come here were originally from there.

Bridgewater resides along the eastern edge of Newfound Lake, the body of water that sustained many Bridgewater families throughout the year.  Farming and fishing were the main means of support for most residents until the coming of the automobile in the early 1900’s allowed people to travel great distances in order to get to work.  Today, the town is primarily a bedroom community and resort town – a place for people to get away from it all.

With little commercial industry, residents of Bridgewater often travel to Plymouth, NH, where there are many more stores, restaurants and entertainment venues to choose from.  Plymouth lies only about seven miles away from Bridgewater, while Concord, the state’s capital, takes about twenty to thirty minutes to reach.  Bridgewater itself offers camping, hiking and biking, fishing and boating and much more, so there’s always something to do in Bridgewater and the NH Lakes Region as a whole.

Bridgewater is a part of School Administrative Unit #4 and a member of the Newfound Area School District, which includes Alexandria, Bristol, Danbury, Groton, Hebron, and New Hampton.  Students from kindergarten age through the fifth grade attend the Bristol Elementary School, while the remaining students are educated at the Newfound Memorial Middle School and the Newfound High School, both located in Bristol, NH.  Bridgewater has no plans to build schools in town at this time.

Getting away from it all has never been so easy – Bridgewater can whisk you away from the turmoil of modern life if you let it.  But to find a house here takes someone in the know – someone like Jim Miller of Bean Group.  Jim knows New Hampshire inside and out and wants to be your NH buyer agent.  Call him today at (603) 801-3987.  Jim is here to answer your questions and put your mind at ease – call right now and let Jim help you start living the New Hampshire dream.
