Middleton, New Hampshire

The tiny town of Middleton lies in the northernmost part of Strafford County in the southeastern corner of beautiful New Hampshire.  With barely 2000 residents, Middleton is generally regarded as a bedroom community for those working in the nearby towns of Rochester, Dover and some parts of Maine.  As relaxing as it is small, Middleton is a great place to retire in peace or start a family in a friendly town with strong family values.

The town was granted by Governor Benning Wentworth in 1749 and named for his friend, Sir Charles Middleton, 1st Baron Barham.  The town was on a road that led from Exeter to Wolfboro, lending to its growth at the time.  As other, more convenient roadways appeared, the town of Middleton was left to its own and its growth slowed to a minimum.  Farming and logging were the mainstays of Middleton until the early 1900s and today the town is seen as a bedroom community for commuters.

If you’re looking for thrills and excitement, look elsewhere because Middleton is not for you.  However, if you enjoy the great outdoors, thick forests, clean mountain streams and the sort of tranquility you can only find in New England, then Middleton is a must.  Retirees enjoy the peace and quiet while young families enjoy the relative safety a small town such as this can offer.  Friendly faces greet you with a wave and a smile in Middleton, a town where most everyone knows everyone else.  Towns like this one are getting harder and harder to find.

Middleton has little commercial or industrial business and plans to keep it that way.  Residents who enjoy hiking, biking and fishing are pleased that their town is in little danger of becoming overdeveloped, much like the towns and cities in the neighboring state of Massachusetts have.  Many Massachusetts residents are becoming New Hampshire resident for that very reason and it’s easy to see why:  New Hampshire is one of the last bastions of peaceful woodlands in the country.

Middleton is a member of School Administrative Unit #61 and all resident students are tuitioned at nearby Farmington, NH.  At this time, Middleton has no plans to construct any schools for its very low student population.

Middleton is one of the many New Hampshire towns that must be seen to be appreciated.  If you’d like to know more about this quiet, countryside town, you need to call Jim Miller Bean Group at (603) 801-3987.  We’re here to answer all your questions about the Granite State and all its warm, welcoming communities.  Call us today and see why New Hampshire is life the way it’s meant to be lived.
