With little plans for future commercial or industrial growth, Temple, New Hampshire looks to remain the peaceful, serene little town it has always been.

The town of Temple was originally known as Peterborough Slip when the land was first granted in 1750.  When the town finally incorporated in 1768, it was renamed by then-governor John Wentworth to honor his Lieutenant Governor, John Temple.  The country's very first official town band, The Temple Town Band, was formed in Temple in 1799 and played its first known public performance for George Washington in the year 1800.  Also historically significant is the Temple Glass Factory, which opened in 1780 to produce bottles and some very early window glass.  Unfortunately, the business was not entirely successful and closed its doors in 1782.  The legacy, however, still lives on today and Temple Glass is now much sought after by antique glass collectors and historians alike.

If escaping the day-to-day routine is what you're after, Temple, New Hampshire offers the seclusion you desire with all the modern-day amenities just a few miles away.  Climb mountains, hike, cycle, fish, kayak, ski and camp in or very near Temple.  Antiquing is a popular activity in the area with many antique shops dotting the surrounding communities.  A short drive brings you to Nashua or Manchester and even Boston itself is only an hour away.  Temple may be a quiet, sleepy little town, but it provides the perfect place to call home while staying close to everything you may desire, be it material or recreational.

Temple, New Hampshire is a member of the Contoocook Valley Cooperative School District, School Administrative Unit #1 which includes Antrim, Bennington, Dublin, Francestown, Greenfield, Hancock, Peterborough, Sharon and Temple.  While Temple runs its own elementary school for resident students in grades one through four (including kindergarten), students in grades five through eight attend South Meadow School in Peterborough and student in grades nine through twelve learn at Contoocook Valley Regional High School, also located in neighboring Peterborough.
