Skiing and Snowboarding in NH

Ski Areas in New Hampshire

When the winter months roll around and you’re looking for something to do, what could be better than skiing and snowboarding in the beautiful state of New Hampshire?

The Granite State offers dozens of ski area and resorts for your whole family to enjoy from the beginning of December to the end of April or, sometimes, right into the warming month of May.  The slopes of New Hampshire are perfect for beginners and experts alike, offering wide-open, smooth “bunny slopes”, moderate blue-circle trails and exhilarating glade skiing for the more experienced skier, as well as neck-breaking double-black diamond trails that will cause even the most seasoned slope-junkies to think twice.

Plan a weekend trip with family or friends, staying at one the fine resorts available throughout the state, such as the sprawling Loon Mountain Resort, magnificent Bretton Woods, the estimable Franconia Notch Ski Resort or the ever-popular Waterville Valley.  No matter what your skiing or riding destination, you’ll find just what you’re looking for in snowy New Hampshire.

From Gunstock in Gilford to Cannon in Franconia, most ski areas in the state offer snow-making capabilities, weather permitting, and you’ll never have to drive far to get to where you’re going.  New Hampshire offers mountain skiing as far south as Plymouth (Tenney Mountain) and Bennington (Crotched Mountain).  The further north you go in the state, the larger the resorts become, with the White Mountain’s Attitash, Bretton Woods and Loon being the three biggest ski resorts (by acreage) the state has to offer.  There are even more, smaller ski areas dotting the New Hampshire landscape from the Massachusetts border to the tip of the state, so if you don’t need a mountain to ski or board down, your options are even greater with places like Granite Gorge Ski Area in Keene or McIntyre Ski Area in Manchester.

Never skied before?  Well, what are you waiting for?  New Hampshire’s ski resorts all offer lessons for beginners with group packages available.  Always wanted to try snowboarding, but thought it was too hard to learn?  Professional instructors will have you carving up the slopes in no time at all.  And if you don’t have the equipment, rental shops are located at every resort in the state and have skis, poles, boots and boards ready for your snow-filled adventure.

An often overlooked aspect of skiing in New Hampshire is its spectacular winter vistas.  There is little to compare to standing at the peak of a mountain in the middle of winter surveying the snow-covered mountain ranges for miles and miles around.  Every one of New Hampshire’s ski resorts offer breathtaking scenery at every turn, so be sure to bring a camera when you ski the Granite State.

From the southern part of the state to the White Mountains up north, New Hampshire has it all when it comes to skiing and riding in the winter months.  Visit the websites of the ski resorts we have listed on this page then ski to your heart’s content right here in the beautiful state of New Hampshire.
