Rindge, New Hampshire
Rindge, New Hampshire is a small town of about 6,500 residents located in southeast Cheshire County on the Massachusetts border. Home to Franklin Pierce College's Rindge campus, this quiet country community provides all the comforts of city life in a quaint New England setting. For most of its history, Rindge was a simple rural community with few businesses. In the past few decades, however, the town has started allowing in commercial business opening up employment opportunities in the area and bringing a new vitality to the local economy. Recent additions to the Rindge business world include a Wal-Mart, a Hannaford's grocery store and numerous fast food chains and restaurants. With great foresight, Rindge has managed to bring convenience to the area while maintaining its quiet country appeal.
The land that was to become Rindge, NH was first granted in 1736 to soldiers from Rowley, Massachusetts who returned from the war with Canada. The first inhabitants called the town "Rowley-Canada" until 1749 when governor Benning Wentworth renamed the town "Monadnock Number One". The town was referred to as "South Monadnock" by the locals until, in 1768, the town was incorporated and renamed in honor of Captain Daniel Rindge, one of the original grant holders. Rindge was a slow-growing farming community that took over 180 years to double its population from 1,100 residents in 1790 to 2,200 residents in 1970. However, it took only 20 years to more than double again and continues to grow to this day, as more and more people realize the attraction of buying a home in southern NH.
Straddled between two large lakes to the north and south and two large ponds to the easy and west, Rindge, NH is a sportsman's paradise. Fishing, boating, hunting, hiking and camping are all available in Rindge, as are tennis facilities, swimming and bicycling. Keene, New Hampshire is only 20 minutes away, Manchester about forty-five and Boston just a bit over an hour. Rindge offers youth groups for children including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and youth sports such as baseball and basketball.
Rindge, NH is a part of the Jaffrey/Rindge Cooperative School District and falls under SAU #47. Rindge maintains the Rindge Memorial School for grades one through six while students in grades six through eight attend the Jaffrey/Rindge Middle School. High school students are taught at the Conant High School in Jaffrey and the Jaffrey/Rindge Cooperative have also created the non-mandatory Jaffrey/Rindge Preschool for children ages three and four.
