New Boston, New Hampshire

A small town of about 5000 people, New Boston, New Hampshire is the epitome of a quaint New England community from the historic homes and buildings to the friendly waves of passing residents.  New Boston lies in northern Hillsborough County just a few short miles west of Manchester.  As is the case in most southern NH towns, New Boston has grown dramatically over the past thirty years from only 1400 residents in 1970 to the nearly 5000 living here now.  New Hampshire has been a magnet for new homes buyers over the past few decades with many people commuting to work in neighboring states.  With no state or excise taxes, NH is regarded as an inexpensive yet convenient place to live.  Its stunning natural beauty only adds to the appeal.

Granted in 1736 to several Boston-based families, New Boston was to be named "Lanestown" or "Piscataquog Township".  Opting to keep the memory of their hometown alive, the grant holders decided to name the town New Boston instead.  This name was applied in 1751 and officially recognized when the town was incorporated by Governor Benning Wentworth in 1763.  Primarily a mill town, by the time the railroad arrived in 1893 New Boston was already well known for lumber, textiles and leathers.  Agriculture, a constant staple in New Boston, has waned over the years and the town is now known as a bedroom community with only a few businesses and little industry.

Location is everything for New Bostonians.  Manchester is a mere fifteen minutes away and contains just about anything you might want to do or own.  Manchester Airport gives residents the ability to travel anywhere with very little driving to and from the airport.  Visiting Boston, Massachusetts is only an hour's drive south and the White Mountain National Forest is about the same distance north.  New Boston itself offers hiking, boating, fishing, bicycling, camping and tennis courts.  There are youth sports available for children and nearby parks for family picnics.

New Boston falls under School Administrative Unit #19 along with Goffstown, NH.  The New Boston Central School provides education for children in preschool and kindergarten up to the sixth grade.  New Boston students in grades seven and eight are tuitioned at Mountain View Middle School in Goffstown while students in grades nine through twelve attend Goffstown Area High School.
