Lyndeborough, New Hampshire

The tiny southern NH town of Lyndeborough is small in population but big on New England charm.  With only 1800 residents, Lyndeborough is the epitome of a rural New England setting.  Mountainous and heavily wooded, the town's character is one of a close-knit community strong on family values.  Home to many Massachusetts commuters, Lyndeborough is widely know as an affluent bedroom community with beautiful homes set in forested lots.  Unmatched New Hampshire scenery is an everyday sight in Lyndeborough.

Originally granted to soldiers returning from the first war with Canada, the area that would become Lyndeborough, NH was first known as Salem-Canada when chartered by Massachusetts in 1735.  When New Hampshire's new provincial government came into existence in 1763, a part of Salem-Canada was regranted to Benjamin Lynde, a former Massachusetts chief justice.  The town was officially incorporated in 1764 and renamed Lyndeborough in honor of its grant holder.  The lack of waterpower in the small town prohibited most industry, however in 1866 the Lyndeborough Glass Company opened its doors for a twenty-year run of high-quality glass manufacturing.  Known for its light blue/green color, bottles and other glass items manufactured in the late 1800's are highly sought-after by today's glass collectors.  The quartz needed for this manufacturing process was mined locally in Lyndeborough and the original quarry is still used today.

Those who appreciate nature will love Lyndeborough, New Hampshire.  Located in the Pack Monadnock Mountain Range, hiking, fishing, mountain biking and mountain climbing are all at your back door.  Nearby Mt. Monadnock in Jaffrey, New Hampshire is the second most climbed mountain in the world, second only to Mt. Fuji in Japan.  At the top, on a clear day, you will find a stunning vista with a view of all six New England states - the only place in New England where this is possible.  Nearby Nashua offers all the amenities of city living with only a brief twenty minute ride back home.  Boston lies only an hour away, as does the entertaining NH seacoast.  The lakes region of the state is less than an hour north with the White Mountains only a short drive beyond.  Convenient to everywhere, yet remaining the tranquil, cozy town it's always been, it's easy to see why more and more people are calling Lyndeborough, New Hampshire their home.
