Sutton, New Hampshire

A town out of yesteryear, Sutton, New Hampshire brings you back to a simpler time.  A time when you knew every neighbor.  A time when friends and family meant more than anything else.  A time when you could trust people – because they were honest.

Sutton is certainly a reminder of days gone by.  In this little town of less than two thousand, people wave at you and greet you with a friendly smile.  In Sutton, people talk to you and are interested in listening to what you say because things seem to move a little slower here.  There’s no rush, there’s no hurry and there’s none of the hustle and bustle of today’s modern living.  When you live in Sutton, you live in a better time and place.

Sutton had a tumultuous beginning.  First granted by the Masonian Proprietors in 1748, many settlers left their claims because the area was inundated with Native Americans and attacks were common.  Even when offered extensions on their claims, most settlers left for safer grounds.  Eventually the Natives were pushed out of the area and the settlement’s population began to rise.  The town was incorporated as Sutton in 1784.

Sutton is a family-oriented town surrounded by the natural beauty of the New Hampshire countryside.  Located just west of the center of the state, Sutton is very close to Lake Winnipesaukee and the lakes region of the state which lends to great water sport opportunities.  Ice fishing, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing are very popular in the winter months while swimming, boating, fishing and other waterborne activities abound in during the warm months of summer.  The stunning White Mountain National Forest is only a short trip north and offers amazing views and incredible vistas.  Even Sutton itself boasts fine spots to enjoy the beautiful scenery – one of the town’s major attractions.  On the edge of the mountainous region of the state, Sutton whispers “beauty” everywhere you look.

However, if you’re in need of a visit to the modern world, jumping onto I-89 will bring you to Concord in less than thirty minutes and Manchester inside of forty-five.  Both cities are lively, active places with all the amenities you could ever need.  Fine dining, entertainment venues, shopping malls and plazas; they’ve got it all and not too far from your front door - but far enough.  Sutton residents truly enjoy the tranquility their town offers.
