Webster, New HampshireWebster, New Hampshire, is a small town in the central region of the state. Located just twenty minutes outside of the state’s capital, Concord, Webster is home to about 2000 people. A throwback to simpler times, the town has very little commercial or industrial interests, favoring instead an atmosphere of small town closeness and the promotion of strong family values. If you want to escape the many troubling aspects of modern-day life, Webster is a great place to start. Webster was originally a part of neighboring Boscawen, NH. Residents in the outlying reaches of the town (the area to eventually become Webster) complained that the meetinghouse was too far from their homes to be quickly and easily reached by horseback. They petitioned the town to allow them to break off from Boscawen and form their own independent town. But instead of splitting that part of the town from the rest, the town fathers decided to simply build another meetinghouse, closer to that part of town. This solution lasted over 70 years, but finally, in 1860, another petition succeeded and the town branched off on its own. It was incorporated that year as Webster, in honor of Daniel Webster the famous New Hampshire statesman and lawyer. Since Webster didn’t have much waterpower, building mills wasn’t a viable option. Instead, for the next seventy-five years, the populace consisted mainly of hunters, farmers, traders and craftsman. Today, Webster is considered a bedroom community with a focus on family and very little in-town business – just the way residents want it. The town of Webster is tucked between two main highways, Routes I-93 and I-89, however they are both several miles away so highway noise never reaches the ears of the population. However, the convenience of having two highways within a few minutes of your front door can’t be denied. Concord is only a twenty-minute drive from Webster and Manchester, the state’s largest and most populated city, lies just another fifteen beyond that. Either city can provide you with anything you could possibly desire, from sporting and cultural events to fine dining and entertainment. The best part, however, is that you’ll be back in your home in no time at all, enjoying the tranquility that Webster exudes. Webster, NH, is a part of SAU #46, which includes the Merrimack Valley Regional School District. Webster has its own elementary school, but the remainder of the Webster students attend the Merrimack Valley Regional Middle School and High School, both in nearby Penacook. Webster is a great town in which to raise a family, there is no doubt.
