Weare, New Hampshire In the northernmost part of southern New Hampshire’s Hillsborough County you will find the beautiful town of Weare. Residents of this quiet, charming hamlet number nearly 9000 yet manage to maintain a small-town feel throughout. Though industrious in its own right, Weare is generally regarded as a bedroom community for the nearby cities of Concord and Manchester. Weare’s beginnings were fragmented with the town first, in 1735, being granted to soldiers who fought in the Canadian wars. The area was called “Beverly-Canada” for the soldier’s hometown of Beverly, Massachusetts but also referred to as “Hale-town” for Robert Hale, the man who petitioned the land for the soldiers. Thirteen years later, Ichabod Robie, Meshech Weare and several others petitioned for a township near the Amoskeag River – and this was granted by the proprietors. The town then became both “Robie’s-town” and “Weare’s-town” at the same time. The town was finally incorporated as Weare in 1764 in honor of Meshech Weare who, in addition to petitioning for the town, being the town’s first clerk and framing NH’s first constitution, also served as a NH Supreme Court Justice and as the state’s first “President” in 1784. Weare, NH’s location gives its residents the freedom to experience all that New Hampshire has to offer without having to drive far from their homes. New Hampshire’s Lake Winnipesaukee, the stunning White Mountain National Forest and the always-exciting seacoast area are all within an hour’s drive from Weare. Weare offers many sponsored activities for children including basketball, football, soccer and baseball as well as several youth groups like the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. The Granite State’s capital, Concord, is within ten miles of Weare and the sprawling metropolis of Manchester is within fifteen. Many Weare residents enjoy the nearby local downhill skiing available to them in the winter and the sun and sand of the neighboring lakes region in the summer months. Weare, NH is a part of SAU #24 and maintains grades kindergarten through eight at the Center Woods Elementary School and the Weare Middle School. Students in grades nine through twelve attend the Weare/Henniker coop high school of John Stark Regional, also located in Weare.
