Springfield, New HampshireSpringfield, New Hampshire, is a small town located in the western half of the state. Set in northern Sullivan County, the town’s 1100 residents enjoy the rolling hills and mountains of the Monadnock and Appalachian Mountain chains and all the natural beauty they bring with them. While the town name of “Springfield” is common enough to appear in over half the US states, citizens of this small NH community feel their town is unique and therefore holds a special place in their hearts. The area to become Springfield, originally named Protectworth, was first granted to several Portsmouth families in 1760, but Governor John Wentworth managed to keep a large portion of the grant for himself. After being chased out of the state for siding with the British, the colonies confiscated that land and soon settlers petitioned for ownership. This was granted and in 1794 the residents petitioned for the incorporation of their town, changing the name to Springfield in the process. Springfield was a town of farmers through the years and still maintains a few of those farms today. For the most part, however, Springfield is a bedroom community, acting as a home base for those residents working in neighboring communities. For enjoyment and entertainment, Springfield residents partake in golfing, fishing, boating and other water-borne recreation, camping, hunting, biking and much, much more. A trip to the attractions of northern New Hampshire generally takes less than an hour to reach, and the Lakes Region of the state can be reached inside 45 minutes. In the winter months, skiing is very popular and Springfield is surrounded by several ski resorts. Neighboring Vermont is also a great location for downhill skiing as well as scenic beauty during the remaining months of the year. There may not be a lot going on in Springfield, but there’s always something to do nearby. Springfield, NH, is a member of School Administrative Unit # 65 and a part of the Kearsarge Regional School District, along with the towns of Bradford, Newbury, New London, Sutton, Wilmot and Warner. There are no current plans to construct schools in Springfield.
