The affluent neighborhoods in this small town can be found tucked away in heavily wooded forests as well as right up close to Route One. Rolling orchards are filled with apples in the fall and folks come from miles around for harvest festivals, apple picking, hay rides and much, much more. With only 2100 residents, Hampton Falls is small in size, but steeped heavily in New England flavor and charm. Originally established as the third parish of Hampton, Hampton Falls became its own town after receiving its grant in 1726. The Taylor River supplied power for the town’s mills, owned by ancestors of Meshech Weare, New Hampshire’s first president, superior court justice and co-author of New Hampshire's constitution. The river was eventually dammed and the mills ceased to exist. Much of Hampton Falls was farmland, dedicated mostly to fruits and vegetables, several of which are still in operation today. As it sits now, Hampton Falls is home to many high-end neighborhoods and is seen as a bedroom community for those working in Portsmouth or nearby Massachusetts. With no actual beachfront property, Hampton Falls residents must travel up the road to Hampton Beach or down the road to Seabrook beach in order to truly enjoy the sun, sand and waves of the Atlantic. It’s only a five-minute drive either way but there’s more to do than just soak up the rays when you live in Hampton Falls. There’s fishing in the Taylor River or out on the marsh, kayaking and canoeing, hiking and biking, there’s a museum in town, cross-country skiing, camping and a lovely municipal park. For the kids, there are several organized youth sports including baseball and soccer as well as the Boy and Girl Scouts of America. Historic Exeter borders Hampton Falls to the west while beautiful and historic Portsmouth is only a short drive north. You couldn’t ask for a more perfect location to settle down in. Hampton Falls is a member of SAU# 21 and maintains its own elementary/middle school, the Lincoln Akerman School, which tends to children from kindergarten age up to the eighth grade. Students in grades nine through twelve are educated at Hampton’s Winnacunnet High School as part of the Winnacunnet Cooperative. There are no current plans to construct a new high school in Hampton Falls. Hampton Falls is the kind of town that you must see to truly appreciate.
