Dunbarton, New Hampshire The quaint little town of Dunbarton, New Hampshire can be found in the central-southern part of the state, very close to both the state capital of Concord and New Hampshire’s largest city, Manchester. Literally ten minutes from either city, Dunbarton residents can take advantage of their town’s great location by utilizing these cities’ services on a daily basis, yet returning home to their quiet little town in no time at all. Dunbarton residents get the best of both worlds. The area to become Dunbarton, NH was first known as Gorham’s-town, for soldiers who had recently served under Captain John Gorham. In 1748, it was re-granted as Starkstown in honor of General John Stark, father of one of the settler’s leaders, Archibald Stark. The town was finally named Dunbarton in 1752 after Dumbartonshire County, Scotland, the original home of Archibald Stark. Without much industry, you might think the 2600 or so residents would have little to do. Not true, as most Dunbarton residents enjoy the natural beauty that displays itself at every turn and happily take full advantage of the hiking, biking and snowmobile trails that surround them. Dunbarton has several stores, but with the close proximity of Concord and Manchester, most people do their shopping at the larger chain stores found in those cities. Dunbarton has planned activities for children, including the Boy and Girl Scouts of America, organized youth sports such as baseball, soccer and basketball, as well as good, old-fashioned fishing down by the stream. Dunbarton’s prime location lends to day trips throughout the state, with the exciting seacoast, the stunning White Mountains and everything in between only a short drive away. The state of Vermont is about an hour west and historic Boston, Massachusetts an hour south. In Dunbarton, you’re close to everything so you can go where you want, see what you wish and still return home to sleep in your own bed. Dunbarton, NH is a part of School Administrative Unit #19 and educates its own student from kindergarten age through sixth grade. Students in grades seven and eight are tuitioned at the Mountain View Middle School in neighboring Goffstown, NH and those in grades nine through twelve attend the Goffstown Area High School, also in Goffstown. Dunbarton is not currently considering the construction of additional schools.
