Deering, New Hampshire

Situated in northern Hillsborough County in the beautiful state of New Hampshire, the small town of Deering is a quiet bedroom community of about 2000 people.  Many of this charming town’s residents commute to work in nearby Manchester and return to the little slice of heaven that is Deering, NH.  Walking the winding country roads through thickly wooded neighborhoods conjures up images of yesteryear, when everything seemed so much simpler.

Deering’s beginnings were relatively uneventful.  Originating from part of a 17th century land grant, the town lines were formed using six unsettled lots owned by a Portsmouth investor group.  The town was incorporated in 1774 by colonial governor John Wentworth and named for his wife, Frances Deering Wentworth.  Farming was the only industry in Deering since the town was not located near a fast-moving water supply and could not build mills.  The farms could, however, supply wool to the neighboring mill towns of the Contoocook River and did so for over 100 years.  Eventually the topsoil played out and many farms failed, decreasing the population substantially in the late 1800’s through mid 1900’s.  After World War II, and with more families owning automobiles, Deering started attracted residents who worked in the city but wanted to live in the country.  Deering remains a quaint bedroom community to this day.

Peace and quiet is the order of the day in Deering.  If you’re looking for non-stop excitement, Deering is not the place for you.  But if you want the old-time tranquility that you only see in lemonade commercials, if you only want a friendly wave and a cheery, “Good morning” from idyllic neighbors, Deering is the home you’ve been dreaming about.  Crotched Mountain Skiing is in the next town over.  Manchester, the state’s largest city is twenty minutes away.  The White Mountains, Lake Winnipesaukee, the New Hampshire Seacoast – all inside an hour from Deering.  If you want the peaceful nature of New England with all its fun and attractions right out your back door, Deering is calling you.

Deering, NH is part of the SAU#34, the Hillsboro-Deering Cooperative School District.  The co-op maintains kindergarten through twelfth grade for the towns of both Hillsborough and Deering, NH.  Due to Deering’s small student population, there are no current plans for a separate school system in the foreseeable future.

Deering has all the charm and old-school character anyone could ask for.  It’s a close-knit community that’s just waiting for you to become a part of.  If Deering, or any other town in southern NH, sounds like just what you need, call Jim Miller Bean Group at (603) 801-3987.  We know Deering and all the other wonderful towns in the Granite State.  We’ve got the latest data from the multiple listing service and we can help you find exactly what you’re looking for.  Call us today and be living in your dream home sooner than you think!
