Danville, New Hampshire Danville, New Hampshire is a small town located in central Rockingham County in the southern part of the Granite State. With a population approaching only 4500, Danville remains a quiet bedroom community for commuters who work in some of the larger towns and cities in the area. A respite from the daily grind, Danville gives its residents a feeling of home and a sense of family; somewhere they can return to knowing every friendly face they see and knowing they belong. Danville was originally a part of Kingston, NH when Kingston was first settled in 1694. One of several parishes to break off on its own, Danville, at the time of its initial charter in 1760, was called “Hawke”, in honor of Admiral Sir Edward Hawke. The name never quite caught on and in 1836 the town was renamed and incorporated as Danville, after several of the original settlers whose names were Daniel. The town’s first meetinghouse, the Hawke Meeting house, was built in 1754 and still stands today. It’s listed in the National Registry of Historic Places and is currently recognized as the oldest original-construction meetinghouse still standing in New Hampshire. Danville has little commercial or industrial business. Primarily a residential community, Danville has no interest in broadening its retail base at the expense of ruining its New England charm and character. With plenty of undeveloped woodlands, hiking/bicycling trials, rivers and streams there’s plenty for the outdoor enthusiast to do. The community has organized sports for children including baseball, soccer and football, as well as a public tennis court. Danville lies within thirty minutes of the NH seacoast, which includes Hampton Beach, Rye and Portsmouth. Manchester is also within thirty minutes, Boston within an hour. When you reside in Danville, whatever you’re looking for is not too far, but not too close. And that’s just the way residents like it. Danville is a part of School Administrative Unit #55, the Timberlane Regional School District, along with Atkinson, Sandown and Plaistow. Danville operates its own elementary school, the Danville Elementary School, for resident children in grades one through five. Grades six through eight attend the Timberlane Regional Middle School in Plaistow, while students in grades nine through twelve are educated at the Timberlane Regional High School, also in Plaistow. Danville is only one of many, many small southern NH towns that fit the definition of “New England” to a “T”.
